We separated between stands that are protected or not protected under IUCN legislation (darker hues indicate protection). We tested for significant pairwise differences between continents and protection within continents using the Wilcoxon test with Bonferroni adjustment. Capital bold letter symbols above the boxplots in each graph denote pairwise differences (Wilcoxon tests) that were significant at p < 0.01, lowercase at p < 0.05
